Summary of the April 18, 2018 House Corporation Board Meeting

There was continued talk about renovating the 2nd and 3rd floors along with the possibility of converting our HVAC system to forced air.  The architects attended this meeting and showed the drawings to all present while explaining changes and reasons for some changes. More decisions will be made over the summer via email and additional board meetings.

We are also considering updating our housemother’s apartment this summer.  The architect presented three different ideas.  Decisions will by email (as allowed per by-laws) after receiving bids for the work.

Doing a new roof this summer was discussed and the bid from Bash/Pepper for $136,000 was reviewed.  We will be getting another bid and then vote by email.

The chapter had successful philanthropy events this past spring, a taco dinner, broom ball contests and a casino night, to raise money for Alpha Phi Foundation.

Summary of the January 1, 2018 House Corporation Board Meeting

Our housemother reported normal maintenance issues in the house and she met with a second architect to discuss needs for the 2nd and 3rd floor reconfiguration project.

HCB members will vote on which architect to have draw up their ideas/plans for the reconfiguration project via email once we have the cost from each architect. We see this project as taking 2-3 years to accomplish.

Summary of the December 6, 2017 House Corporation Board Meeting

There was a gas odor out front of the house after returning from Thanksgiving break. Ameren was immediately called and has repaired the leak but in the process of doing so tore up the lawn and parts of the sidewalk. This is being repaired but with winter coming, this might take awhile.

We are starting to look at reconfiguring some rooms on the second and third floors to better use the space.

Summary of the November 1, 2017 House Corporation Board Meeting

Beta Alpha turns 100 in 2022. We are getting our 100th Anniversary Planning committee together! Time to set a date and start getting ideas in place.

We approved the hiring of Stephens & Stull accounting firm as our current accountant, Lou Simpson, will be retiring at the end of this year.

The Slate of Officers for Fall 2017-Spring 2019 was approved.

Summary of the September 27, 2017 House Corporation Board Meeting

We sent our house director, Paula Duis, to the Alpha Phi House Director Conference in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at the LSU chapter house. The chapter reported that recruitment went well and that they pledged 53 new members.

Summer 2017 projects included new coats of polyurethane on the hardwood floors throughout the first floor, new artwork for the back foyer, a mirror to replace the artwork above the couch in the living room, painting the 2nd and 3rd floor hallways and all but the dining room on the first floor using a lighter cream color, new windows in the dining room and finally a new (used) baby grand piano was purchased through donations made by reunion groups.

The November 1, 2017 meeting will be the annual meeting.
